The vice-president of the European Parliament Pina Picierno, who left the Democratic Party to join Sandro Gozi’s European Democratic Party, “is welcome” in the Renew Europe group. The German MEP tells Adnkronos Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (Fdp), member of the Liberal group’s Bureau.
Picierno “is a colleague from open minded“, explains Strack-Zimmermann, former ‘Spitzenkandidatin’, i.e. candidate for the presidency of the European Commission, of the ALDE (the European liberal democratic party from which the Renew group was born) in the 2024 European elections.
The person speaking to her, she reports, was the group leader “Valérie Hayer. It happens that people move” and change groups in the European Parliament. “There are always different situations where someone moves and I think she had some good reasons to do it. She is welcome to Renew Europe”, concludes Strack-Zimmermann.
