They continue to get into trouble: an Israeli is arrested in Thailand

Thai authorities arrested an Israeli businessman in Pai district today (Thursday), on suspicion of running a studio business illegally through straw shareholders, and providing false information in official registration documents.

According to the authorities, the suspect, a 39-year-old Israeli, is charged with conspiracy to provide false information to the authorities for inclusion in official documents, which may be used as evidence and harm others or the public. In addition, he is suspected of operating a studio business in a field that is restricted to Thai citizens according to the country’s foreign business laws, as well as of assisting Thai entities to run a foreign-owned business without the required approval.

In the investigation it was reported that information was received about the location of the suspect in Pai, and the police arrived at the scene to execute the arrest warrant. His identity was verified on the spot before he was taken in for questioning.

The police said that the suspect confirmed that he was the person appearing in the warrant, and stated that he had not been arrested before under that warrant. He was informed of the suspicions and his rights and was transferred for further investigation.

This week we reported on a broad operation by the Thai authorities, with the aim of catching foreigners who operate illegal businesses throughout the country. In the operation, 10 Israelis have already been deported in the Copenhagen area, after they operated businesses registered to local residents.
