The EU ambassador welcomes Osipyan’s release

EU Ambassador to Armenia Vasilis Maragos welcomes the release of Artur Osipyan.

“I welcome the decision to release Artur Osipyan. This is a positive development. Respect for democracy, fundamental rights, due process and freedom of expression are a key part of the common values of the European Union and Armenia,” the European diplomat wrote in X.

“We will continue to follow the case,” Maragos’ post said.

Arrested after arguing with the Prime Minister, Osipyan spent 23 days in Nubarashen prison and was released from custody last night. The young man accused of public calls to violence, hooliganism and obstructing propaganda announced a hunger strike in protest, demanding an apology from Nikol Pashinyan for calling him a “runaway” and insulting him.

Two days before the June 7 parliamentary elections, Maragos discussed Osipyan’s case with human rights defender Anahit Manasyan.
