‘Code threatening Mr. Trump’ appeared at the US National Square

US officials opened an investigation after the number “8647”, often used to refer to threats against Mr. Trump, appeared on the grass at the National Mall.

Images from the online camera system EarthCam show that the numbers “8647”, made up of many patches of brown withered grass, have appeared on the lawn at the National Mall (National Square) since at least the afternoon of June 10. These traces do not appear in photos taken of the area on June 5.

The number sequence “8647” is often used by a group of people who oppose President Donald Trump to express disagreement, but the US government considers this a code to threaten his life. The number “86” is often used in the restaurant industry to mean eliminating or dismissing a dish or customer, while “47” is understood to refer to Mr. Trump, the 47th President of the United States.

The National Mall is a landscape park located near the center of the US capital Washington, between the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and Capitol Hill.

The cause of the grass changing color has not been determined.

US National Park Service staff on the afternoon of June 11 blocked the area, while some National Guard soldiers instructed people to stay away from the grass.

“Crazy vandalism on the National Mall will not be tolerated. The Department of the Interior will take all threats against the US President very seriously. The US Park Police will investigate the incident and force those responsible to pay,” said a US Department of the Interior spokesperson.

The above number sequence caused controversy after former director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation James Comey was prosecuted in connection with a social network post with a picture of seashells arranged in the form “86 47”. Mr. Comey denied the accusation that the post contained a call for violence against President Trump.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle said that anyone who participates in or promotes political violence or a culture of assassination must be strongly condemned.
