Trump suspends attacks against Iran, citing approval of the “final points” of the agreement

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that he is suspending the attacks scheduled for this Thursday night against Iran, claiming that, after carrying out “conversations at the highest level” with Iranian officials, all parties have approved the “final points” of the agreement to end the war unleashed on February 28.

“Given that talks have been held with Iran at the highest level of the Iranian leadership, I, as President of the United States, have canceled the scheduled attacks and bombings against Iran tonight,” he said in a message posted on social media.

The Republican magnate has also stated that “the final points” of the agreement to end the conflict have been reached “both in concept and in detail” by all parties, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt.

“The naval blockade will remain in full force until this transaction is finalized; the date and location of the signing will be announced soon,” the US president said.

Later, in statements to the press from the Oval Office, he spoke of a “great agreement” with Tehran, which he described as “very solid” and “a little conceptual,” and indicated that his Administration is finalizing the document.

In this sense, Trump has assured that the signing of the agreement “should occur in the coming days” and has pointed to Europe as a place to carry it out. “We will probably sign the agreement during the weekend in Europe,” he said, indicating that it would be his ‘number two’, JD Vance, who would attend the meeting.

Trump has ruled out ordering a military operation to take over the Iranian island of Jark once Tehran and Washington have signed the agreement. Furthermore, he has highlighted the increases experienced in the stock market after its announcement, which “means that (the markets) like the agreement.” “It means that they like it. Oil will begin to fall (…) even more than before,” he said.

“And most importantly, we have an agreement that Iran will never have nuclear weapons, which was the main objective of everything we had to negotiate to achieve it,” he added, before indicating that he has held talks with the leaders of Israel, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and “other” countries.

The White House tenant has also suggested that Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, supports the agreement. “I understand that the answer is yes,” he said when asked if the ayatollah has agreed to the pact.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, has assured that “as soon as” the “competent” authorities have reached a conclusion on the negotiations, they will announce it, pointing out that so far what there is is “media speculation.”

“So far, we have not reached a definitive conclusion on this matter. This is a very important issue that is being analyzed by the competent institutions, and as soon as we reach a conclusion, we will inform you,” he said in statements collected by the IRNA news agency, specifying that they will do so with “total transparency.”

Trump had previously announced that US forces would attack Iranian territory again on Thursday night and had even alluded to the fact that Washington, “at some point in the not too distant future, will take” the strategic Jark Island and “other points of Tehran’s oil infrastructure.”

“We will assume full control of their oil and gas markets, in a very similar way to what we have done with Venezuela, which is working wonderfully for both Venezuela and the United States,” the head of the White House stressed this Thursday.

The threats come when, for the second consecutive day, Washington and Tehran have exchanged attacks, after the Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for launching a wave of drone attacks against US bases located in Bahrain and other points in the Middle East, in an action that it described as “retaliation” for the aggressions perpetrated by the United States against various enclaves of the Islamic Republic.
