Parents rebelled because of the trip to Kumrovec: The school canceled everything

At the beginning of June, the students of a third grade elementary school in Zagreb did not realize the planned school trip to Kumrovec after the opposition of some parents, writes Telegram. According to their statements, a discussion developed in the parents’ WhatsApp group in which some parents expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that the destination of the trip was their birthplace. Josip Broz Tito. In the messages, they claimed, among other things, that they knew ‘whose children are going’ and ‘to whom they are going there’, while parents who supported the trip were asked whether their ancestors liberated Croatia in 1991 or 1945. A trip to Kumrovec and a visit to the “Staro selo” Museum there was foreseen in the school curriculum since the beginning of the school year as an activity for third-grade students. According to the parents’ correspondence, which Telegram had access to, the teacher informed the parents about the planned trip at the very beginning of the school year.

Despiteč therefore, immediately before leaving, part of the parents objected to the organization of the trip. After an argument between the parents, the teacher decided to cancel the trip for that particular class.

While the students of the other third grades of the same school traveled to Kumrovec according to the schedule, the disputed class remained in Zagreb.

Let us remind you that the Museum ‘Staro selo’ in Kumrovac operates as part of the Museum of Croatian Zagorje and is one of the most important museums of traditional culture in Croatia. During school visits, students get to know the cultural, historical and ethnographic heritage of Hrvatski Zagorje.
