Melons at the G7: "Relationship with Trump unchanged. Now let Israel work for peace"

There have been several opportunities to discuss these two days, the last one just a little while ago, before arriving at you”, continued Meloni.

“Israel works for peace”

“We expect that now Israel operate as a positive actor in path of peace and that the inevitable internal debate, also dictated by the electoral campaign, does not jeopardize the arduous path that the United States has started”, stated the Prime Minister.

The agreement with Iran

“With regards to developments in the Middle East – continued Meloni – as I was saying, it was The agreement reached between the United States and Iran was welcomed by allwhich we believe can be an important framework for the stability of the region as a whole. Clearly it is now important to work for its implementation starting from the need to ensure the safety of international maritime routes, full freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. In this context, I have clearly confirmed to my partners that Italy is ready to do its part also in the context of missions aimed at guaranteeing the safety of commercial traffic, without prejudice to the necessary authorizations that are due and requested in these cases”.

“I took advantage of the dialogue with the Gulf Nations also to once again suggest strengthening and I would say structuring the dialogue between the G7 and the Gulf Nations which, I repeat, from the Italian point of view are essential partners not only in the energy sector but also in that of innovation, technology, economic development and clearly also stability”, added Meloni.

“Happy with the convergence of the G7”

During the G7 “we all agreed on the need to continue to guarantee the support for Kiev, keeping the pressure on Moscow high. I am very happy that there is full convergence on this. The unity of the West, the firmness of the West continue to be, from my point of view, the most effective tools for creating the conditions necessary for a real negotiation”. Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the closing press conference of the G7. “The objective”, underlined the Prime Minister, “remains that of encouraging a direct confrontation between Zelensky and Putin, but while Zelensky has so far demonstrated a sincere attitude towards the resolution of the conflict, not least with an open letter which was sent directly to the president Putin, no serious signal in this sense has come from Moscow and we believe that those signals are now necessary.”

EU mediator? “Very difficult”

Il EU mediator for the Russian-Ukrainian conflict? “If you want to reach a result on this issue, I think it would be very difficult to propose a person who comes from one of the large European countries”, claims the prime minister. “A choice of this type would, from my point of view, make it more difficult to reach an agreement. I would therefore turn to the medium powers of the European Union.”

Vannacci? “I don’t deal with alchemy”
