Qatar’s Ministry of Transport announced on June 29 a temporary ban on recreational and fishing boats going to sea.

According to The Peninsula, an exception is made for ships subject to international maritime conventions and operating under current rules.

The department called the decision a precautionary measure taken in coordination with security authorities. The reason for the ban is not reported.

The day before, the Qatari Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that a citizen of the country died from shrapnel wounds on a private sea vessel as a result of “military actions in the region.” Another person was injured and taken to hospital.
