EU and 6G: Weber (EPP) pushes for the exclusion of China

Sixth generation mobile networks in the EU will have to be built “without China”. This was underlined by the group leader and president of the EPP Manfred Weber, during the EPP assembly underway in Vienna.

The EU, says Weber, must “abandon naivety in the relationship with China. We must accelerate. We must be clear that reciprocity is fundamental, that a level playing field is fundamental for us”.

And, he adds, “I would go even further. I would even say that future infrastructures, let’s look at 6G infrastructures for this continent, must be, from my point of view, infrastructures without China. We must become independent“. European 5G networks in the EU are still very dependent on equipment produced by Chinese companies, in particular Huawei and Zte.
