Martha Kos. The process of developing interconnection with the EU in the South Caucasus is at a new stage

EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos referred to the high-level negotiations held by the European Union in Yerevan, Baku and Ankara for the development of regional connectivity in X.

“I have just returned from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia, where we moved our work towards the development of interdependence to the next stage. This can contribute to the establishment of stable peace in the South Caucasus, while diversifying trade and energy routes between Europe and Asia.

The expansion and development of interconnectedness complement each other. Both contribute to the strengthening of Europe’s stability, prosperity and security,” Kos emphasized.

Yesterday, during a briefing with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that Brussels intends to establish a preferential customs regime for Armenia, which will enable about 80 percent of the goods exported from Armenia to be delivered to the European markets without customs duties.

“With this, we can redirect products that are heavily exported to the Russian market and send them to the European Union’s single market for 450 million people,” von der Leyen said.

He also assured that Armenia can count on the European Union, emphasizing the importance of the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement process.

“When Armenia gets closer to the European Union, the entire Caucasus gets closer, the initial signing of the peace agreement last year was a historic event,” said the President of the European Commission.
