Marine Le Pen can participate in the 2027 elections. court

Today, the French appeals court reviewed the first-instance verdict against the leader of the nationalists, Marine Le Pen, essentially giving her the opportunity to participate in the presidential elections to be held in the spring of 2027.

The Court of Appeal shortened the period of the ban for Le Pen from running for public office, set by the first instance, from 45 months to 30 months, conditionally.

“Since 15 of them have already passed, it means that the nomination ban no longer applies,” Reuters details.

However, the appeals court found the leader of the nationalists guilty of misusing EU funds, imposing a three-year prison sentence.

“Two of them are conditional, and Le Pen will have to spend one more with a special device attached to her leg,” the court ruled. “The presence of that device could create additional political and logistical complications during Le Pen’s possible election campaign,” writes Reuters.
