British police have released a man detained in connection with the murder of ex-deputy minister Anne Widdicombe.

British police have released a 26-year-old man detained yesterday on suspicion of murdering former Deputy Home Secretary and ex-Conservative Party MP Anne Widdicombe.

Police said he is no longer considered involved in the investigation.

Anne Widdicombe, 78, was found dead on the evening of July 10 at her home in Dartmoor. Police previously said they were not treating the murder as a terrorist attack and had no evidence of a political motive.

The investigation is ongoing.

Widdicombe represented the Conservative Party in the British Parliament for more than 20 years and served as Home Secretary for Prisons. After leaving the House of Commons, she became an MEP for the Brexit Party and later joined the Reform UK party. She also appeared on popular television shows and was known for her strong social conservative views. Widdicombe never married or had children.
