Lindsey Graham, senator and Trump ally, dies in the US

A law graduate and retired US Air Force colonel, Graham has represented the state of South Carolina in the Senate since 2003.

A member of the Republican Party, he built a political trajectory marked by his closeness to President Donald Trump and his work on issues related to foreign policy and national security.

Trump mourned his ally’s death in a post on the Truth Social network. The American president stated that Graham was one of the main names in the Senate and highlighted the parliamentarian’s dedication to the country.

“Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and senators I have ever known, has passed away! He was always working and was a true American patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!! More details and information about the funeral coming soon. How sad!” he wrote.

International authorities also paid tribute to the senator. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, classified Graham as a “true defender of freedom” and highlighted the Republican’s work in favor of American support for Kiev in the war against Russia.

“A staunch supporter of bipartisan and bicameral support for Ukraine, in recent weeks he has been working on important initiatives that could help bring peace closer, including stronger sanctions against Russia. We will always be especially grateful for our people’s recognition and words of admiration for the courage of Ukraine’s defenders,” Zelensky said.

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that he lost “a beloved friend” and highlighted the defense of the alliance between the two countries.

“He dedicated his life to defending America, strengthening our alliance and defending the free world. Israel has lost one of its greatest friends. America has lost a great patriot. I have lost a beloved friend,” said the Israeli leader.
