Israel sentenced soldiers to send missile interception videos to Iran

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) today said that this soldier sent two videos recording air defense intercepting missiles during the 12-day war with Iran in June 2025 and received compensation from the enemy. This person is also accused of transferring to Iranian agents a number of videos taken at military locations, including images of the scene of a missile falling into a residential area posted online.

“Due to feeling pressured, the defendant informed people in his unit that he had been in contact with foreign agents. He was immediately arrested by the Israeli Internal Security Agency (Shin Bet) afterwards,” the IDF said, but did not state the time of the arrest of the above soldier.

Investigation results showed that the Israeli soldier was contacted by a stranger through social networks and received many messages offering jobs. There was a request from an Iranian agent, asking if he wanted to make money doing work related to taking photos and videos.

The identities of the Israeli soldiers were not announced. The military prosecutor recommended a sentence of 7 years in prison, but the court considered a number of mitigating circumstances.

“The court considers that the defendant did not transfer military data or information obtained during the mission. It was the defendant who actively cut off contact with the foreign agent and quickly reported the incident to the commander,” the IDF said.

In addition to the prison sentence, Israeli soldiers were also fined 1,000 shekels (about 335 USD), and their military rank was reduced to private.

Israeli officials said Iran’s airstrikes during the 12-day conflict caused serious damage to industrial and civil infrastructure, killing 28 people, but did not mention damage to military and intelligence bases.

A group of researchers at Oregon State University in the US, who specialize in determining war damage based on open source data, last year published analysis showing that six Iranian ballistic missiles most likely hit five Israeli military bases.

Newspaper Telegraph Britain said these 6 missiles were not among the 36 shells that the IDF admitted to letting go. The targets hit were located in the north, center and south of Israel, including the key Tel Nof air base, an intelligence center and a logistics facility.

Analysis results also showed that the majority of Iranian missiles were intercepted, but the rate of passing through the Israeli air defense network increased steadily during the first eight days of the conflict.

Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles on June 13-14, 2025, the rate of overcoming Israeli air defense was only 2-2.5%. In the following days, Tehran only launched a few dozen projectiles per day, but the IDF’s target miss rate increased continuously and reached a peak of 16% on June 19, 2025.

The reason was that the Israeli army gradually ran out of anti-aircraft missiles, Iran improved its raid tactics and switched to using more modern weapons.

Israeli public opinion has repeatedly questioned the possibility that its military base was hit during the war, but no information has been published due to Israel’s strict media control policy.
