French DJ Kavinsky found lifeless in his home in Paris

DJ Kavinskya leading figure on the French electronic music scene, was found dead last night in his home in Paris. This was announced by the prosecutor’s office, which confirmed the opening of an investigation to clarify the causes of death and “determine the origin of the fatal event, given that the rescuers did not detect any suspicious elements on site”.

Kavinsky — whose real name was Vincent Belorgey — would have turned 51 on July 31.

The success with “Nightcall” and the institutional tribute

Artist symbol of the ‘French Touch’ movement, he was famous above all for the song “Nightcall“, performed together with pop-rock band Phoenix and Belgian star Angèle during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“With the sudden passing of Kavinsky, France loses one of its most distinctive voices. From the film Drive at the Paris Olympics, the whole world vibrated to the tune of Nightcall. At once danceable and nostalgic, his music will continue to transcend generations and borders,” Culture Minister Catherine Pégard wrote on social media.

From the beginning to international success

A self-taught pianist originally from Seine-Saint-Denis, Kavinsky began his career in the early 2000s, performing notably as a support band for Daft Punk and collaborating with other emerging names on the electronic scene, such as SebastiAn.

However, the real turning point in his career came with “Nightcall”, a synthwave hit with dark atmospheres and a slow pace, included in the soundtrack of the successful film Driveinterpretato da Ryan Gosling.
