Iran indicates that all its interlocutors remain in the country this Monday after Trump affirmed new negotiations

The Iranian spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baqaei, said this Monday that all the interlocutors participating in the peace negotiations with the United States will remain in the country, after President Donald Trump assured that there would be new talks this same day.

Baqaei explained that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araqchi, has headed towards the Iraqi city of Najaf, to participate in the Arbain events, a festival that commemorates the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, the third imam of the Shiites, Husayn ibn Ali.

“Dr. Araqchi leaves today for Arbain and all the negotiation partners are also in Iran. We have not added any new mediators to the existing ones,” the spokesperson responded when asked about these latest statements by President Trump regarding the restart of talks.

The talks, which are not usually direct, are being held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, a country with which Iran, Baqaei has highlighted, is negotiating an agreement that guarantees the safe reopening and security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

“At this moment we are not negotiating with the United States,” explained the spokesperson, who recalled that the problems the region is going through are due to “the military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime,” according to ISNA.

“As long as the US atrocities and the naval blockade persist, there will probably be no significant changes in the situation in the Strait of Hormuz (…) and as for matters related to Iran and the United States, we will have to wait to see how the situation evolves,” he concluded.

Trump also declared on Saturday that he had agreed to suspend the attacks after Iran and several other countries in the Middle East asked him to stop any armed response until diplomatic channels were exhausted and even more so with an understanding agreement on the table, which the parties accuse each other of not respecting.
