Iran executes two people accused of spying for Israel

Two men were executed this Monday in Iran after being accused of spying for the Mossad, Israel’s Intelligence services, to whom they have been providing coordinates and photographs of military and security installations, considered sensitive, before and during the war with the United States.

These are Omid Behzad and Pouria Safwat, whose conviction has been ratified by the Supreme Court of Iran. The two have been hanged, as confirmed this Monday by the Iranian news agency Mizan.

Both were collaborators and operational agents of the Israeli services on the ground in apparently simple, but complex projects, and played a fundamental role in the transmission of information, details the aforementioned agency.

The Human Rights NGO Hengaw has questioned these accusations and has criticized that the judicial process and executions have been carried out behind closed doors. For this organization, the continued internet outages make it unlikely that those accused would be able to carry out the tasks of which they are accused.

“Before the announcement of their executions, no information had been made public about their arrests or death sentences,” denounced the NGO, which has undermined the veracity of the “confessions” of both, broadcast by the Iranian media, since they would have come through alleged torture.

“The televised confessions were obtained under torture and severe pressure while they were in solitary confinement. No information has been published about the prison where they were held, the place of the executions or whether their bodies were delivered to their families,” he warned in a statement.

The NGO has denounced that the Iranian authorities are using the death penalty to intimidate and repress society and opposition movements. Without going any further, a week ago, two men were executed accused of the murder of two police officers during protests against the Government in January.
