On the night of August 3, an earthquake occurred in Egypt, which was also felt in the southern and central regions of Israel.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reports an earthquake of magnitude 5.2. The outbreak lay at a depth of 10 km, the epicenter was 38 km north of Suez (Egypt).
There were no reports of damage or casualties from Egypt.
Israel is located in the Syrian-African Rift region, which is characterized by high seismic activity.
Let us recall that the most destructive earthquake in the modern history of Eretz Israel was the July 11, 1927 earthquake in the Jerusalem area, when about 300 people died. In recent decades, the strongest earthquake in the Eilat area was on November 22, 1995 (it is believed that it resulted in the death of one person, who died of a heart attack). In the 21st century, the strongest earthquake in Israel was on February 15, 2008 – with a magnitude of up to 5.3 (according to data published then by the Israeli police), this earthquake did not lead to serious damage or casualties.
