Iran and Oman are negotiating to create a joint maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz: Baghai

Iran and Oman are in talks to create a single maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz that would serve the interests of both countries, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said, stressing that the discussions are about unifying the southern route through Omani territorial waters and the northern route through Iranian territorial waters.

The ministry spokesman added that the current talks are about creating a single, two-way passage, not two or three separate routes. The proposed corridor is intended as a temporary solution until a final, permanent route is established to replace the current shipping lanes.
