The star of the Argentine football team, the legendary football player Lionel Messi has stated that he has “serious doubts” whether he will continue to play football for a long time after the death of his father.

“I don’t know what I will do without you, I don’t know how to continue. I was just playing football, and now I have serious doubts whether I will continue to do it for a long time,” 39-year-old Messi wrote on social networks after the death of his father.

Jorge Messi, who was also his agent, died last week at the age of 68.

Messi’s contract with Inter Miami of Major League Soccer runs until the end of the 2028 season.

In his post, he reflected on the last months of his father’s life, which coincided with the 2026 World Cup.

“I kept telling you that we would make it to the final so you could come and watch it. We made it to the finals, but you couldn’t be there. I wanted to win to bring the cup to you and show you the new one. I couldn’t, my legs just couldn’t take it,” Messi was honest in his first public comment after losing 1:0 in the final against Spain in New Jersey.

The cause of Jorge Messi’s death has not been released, but local media reported that he was suffering from cancer.
