The relative of the missing Israeli women in Vienna: “We have no idea where they are”

A few days have passed since Meli and Liel Yahalomi went missing in Europe and today (Wednesday) three Israeli sources who are familiar with the details say that the working assumption in Israel is that this is not an incident with a nationalistic background or an incident involving the Palestinian Authority. The Austrian police also commented on the incident and announced that “no criminal incident is suspected”.

In the last day, the security system worked to try and check if the direction is security and all kinds of intelligence checks were done which led to the thought that this is probably not an incident of an Iranian or pro-Palestinian unit. The search efforts are now focused on the cellphone location of the two, in the last few hours nearby hospitals were also checked to see if they were hospitalized as unknowns. A representative of the Israel Police is in Vienna and a non-governmental organization will be developed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to centralize information about the incident.

The fact that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the one leading the investigation of the matter and not the Mossad or the MLA, strengthens the assessment that the aspects of the mysterious disappearance are more civilian than security.

Moshe Yahami, brother and aunt of Meli and Liel Yahami, who have been missing since Friday, spoke on “Hayom Edition” with Amalia Doak and informed that there is currently no new information on their location.

The two, mother and daughter who went on a surprise 50th birthday trip, were last seen on Friday in the apartment they rented in the Austrian capital. “There is nothing new that can testify to their location, or where they went,” said Yahami. “I try to concentrate on only one thought – that they will return home.”

The last connection with the disappearance was made last Friday, between four and six in the afternoon. They arrived at the apartment they rented in the city and sent their family members a video in which they introduced the place. “They took pictures of the apartment to show us how nice and beautiful it is,” described Yahamili.

According to him, “on Saturday they left the apartment, but the family has no indication of when it happened or where they went, since no official departure procedure was carried out on the spot.”

The family realized that the two had disappeared after they did not show up for the flight back to Israel yesterday. Yahami explained that the family members do not know the planned itinerary, because the niece organized the trip as a surprise for her.

He emphasized that the family refuses to address the rumors spread on social networks: “It simply does not interest us. We only refer to the findings from the security forces.”

Search efforts in Vienna have expanded over the past day. The Austrian police raised the level of the investigation and activated elite units to locate the missing. At the same time, Yahamo’s brother landed in Vienna this morning to assist in the search and to be in contact with the authorities. “There is the consul there who is helping us in an incredible way,” Yahami noted, adding that members of “Malchitim” and representatives of the “Magan” company hired by the family are also working in the area.
