CNN: US embassies in the Middle East are preparing for long periods of work with limited staff

The US State Department has instructed American embassies in the Middle East to prepare for long periods of reduced staffing due to the ongoing conflict with Iran. CNN reports this.

According to the TV channel, the plans have not yet been finalized, however, employees evacuated from the region are increasingly being allowed to complete their work at their previous duty station and not return back.

The US previously removed non-essential personnel and family members of diplomats from a number of countries in the region, including Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

CNN notes that the reduced operating hours of American diplomatic missions may continue for a long time – from several months to several years.
