White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt is leaving

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of the month, US President Donald Trump announced this evening (Wednesday). According to him, Leavitt asked to leave to spend more time with her family.

“Serving as White House spokesperson for the past year and a half has been the honor and adventure of my life,” Leavitt wrote in a post she published on Network X. Despite her departure from the official position, she is expected to remain in Trump’s close political environment.

Trump announced that Leavitt would become one of his top advisers outside the White House and continue to be an influential voice in the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections. “Caroline will now be one of my top outside advisers and an influential voice in the Republican Party as we work to win unequivocally in the midterm elections,” he wrote.

Leavitt joined Trump’s 2024 election campaign, and later served as a spokeswoman for his transition team. After his victory, Trump chose her for the position of White House spokeswoman – and she was the youngest person appointed to the position.

Leavitt’s departure comes about a month and a half after another shake-up at the top of the Trump administration: the head of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, announced her resignation after meeting with the president at the White House and informing him of her decision. Her retirement took effect on June 30, in the midst of sensitive talks the administration was conducting with Iran, when Gabbard played a central role in the concentration of information and assessments of the situation for the American intelligence community.
