UKMTO reports attack on tanker in Strait of Hormuz

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) reported an attack on an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, August 25, but details were published only on the night of Thursday, August 27.

According to UKMTO, the vessel was hit by an “unidentified ordnance”. A fire broke out on board, which was later extinguished. All crew members are safe.

The British service added that there were no signs of sea pollution or other environmental damage after the attack.

Information about the ownership of the tanker, its route and the nature of the weapons used has not yet been disclosed.
