In New York, a 63-year-old man attempted self-immolation in the lobby of the building where the Google offices are located.

He was engulfed in flames escaping from his backpack, which was believed to contain flammable liquid. Emergency services quickly responded to the call and put out the fire. The victim was taken in stable condition to Weill Cornell Hospital. Doctors said he suffered severe burns to his head, upper torso and arms.

The quick response to the incident was made possible by the fact that the NYPD’s internal investigations unit is located in the same building, which actually saved the man’s life.

The NYPD began an investigation at the scene. At this time, no arrests have been made and there is no evidence linking the victim to Google.
