This Monday, the Russian Presidency rejected any type of involvement in the entry of tens of thousands of migrants from Moroccan territory to Ceuta after the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, denounced the spread of hoaxes on social networks in accounts “associated with both Russia and Israel.”
“No. Nothing to do with it,” said Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov in statements to Russian public television RBC about whether the Russian authorities had anything to do with the crisis.
Sánchez has stressed that there is “no information” that points to Morocco at the origin of the crisis, and, instead, he has pointed out Russia and Israel along with “a far-right international” that seeks to “use” migration to “attack” Spain and Europe.
“There were indeed Russian and Israeli networks that spread these hoaxes and that attacked the Government of Spain and European governments on a very corrosive issue, such as the fight against irregular migration,” he indicated, alluding to an analysis by the European External Action Service of the EU, and underlining that they attack Spain for “brave political positions” regarding the “genocide” in Gaza and the “invasion” of (Vladimir) Putin in Ukraine.
Israel has responded through its Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, who has accused Sánchez of spouting “blatant lies” for linking Tel Aviv to the migration crisis in Ceuta.
“He lied again, accusing, surprisingly, Israel of spreading misleading information about the events in Ceuta. This is a blatant lie,” said Saar in a message on social networks in which he attacks Sánchez for his statements about the origin of the crisis in Ceuta, in words in which he refused to point out Morocco for the massive entry of 80,000 migrants into Ceuta at the end of July.
“Continuing to spread defamatory lies will not distract from Sánchez’s shameful inability to manage the affairs of his country,” the Israeli Foreign Minister continued.
This Monday is the latest exchange of accusations between the Spanish Government and the Executive headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, who called his ambassador in Madrid for consultations in May 2024 following the recognition of Palestine and has not designated a successor.
