The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said the sabotage attempt last month at Leipzig airport had all the hallmarks of state terrorism.
“Hybrid attacks across Europe are a signal that it is time for countries that have not taken a clear position to wake up. If we want to end this war, we must focus on this, take it to the next level,” she said, speaking in Ireland at a conference of EU foreign ministers.
Kallas said that the Russian representative to the EU has been summoned to deliver a note of protest, and the foreign ministries of the EU member states will do the same. A new package of sanctions is being prepared that will affect 1,600 individuals and legal entities.
Let us remind you: on the evening of August 4, a drone with explosives was discovered on the airfield of Leipzig airport in close proximity to the Ukrainian An-124. Shortly after this, a UAV collided with a DHL aircraft six kilometers from the airport. Airport operations were stopped.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on September 1 that the investigation had concluded that the attack was carried out on Russian orders. According to him, this is evidenced by the results of the police investigation, the nature of the preparation of the attack and intelligence data. Moscow previously denied involvement in the incident.
