“We don’t spend a euro”, the secret of the couple who spend their retirement traveling in a camper

A couple retires and decides to move… to Spain. Chantal and Didier Gautherey, Frenchmen originally from the Herault region, decided to travel with their camper once they retired, but during a long period away from home they found a new one.

For the past four years, elderly people have been spending their winters in Spain: “We come here for the heat and the cost of living”, Chantal revealed to TF1, while Didier added: “For the shopping, for everything, really. At the restaurant, for example, we treat ourselves to things that we couldn’t afford in France”. In short, it’s a question of money, but not only that. In Spain they are much more ‘camper friendly’ than in France, a detail that has convinced the couple to spend more and more time in the country.

Parking lots with a sea view and above all free, all equipped with drinking water: “Water is everywhere. In any case, we have an app to find available fountains,” explained Didier. Like them, another couple of retired campers, Philippe and Michelle Bardoux, declared that they had not spent a single cent on parking since they left Normandy for a three-month trip: “Valencia, Denia, Benidorm… All for zero euros of parking. In Spain there are more car parks than in France”.
