The actress Jella Haase has spoken out against plans to develop on the edge of Tempelhofer Feld. “Another major construction site would destroy Tempelhofer Feld and everything that takes place here,” said Haase, who was born in Berlin, in a video on her Instagram profile.
Haase called the argument that development could help solve the rent crisis a “brazen lie”. In the video caption, she wrote that “there will be no cheap rents” in the field. Instead, there was a threat of overpriced condominiums and speculative properties.

Haase also pointed out the importance of the field for the city’s climate. It cools down the city and ensures that “we can survive heat waves better.” The plans “brazenly and irresponsibly ignore the reality of our lives,” she wrote.
Haase also linked her plea to an indirect election call for the parties that are against the development: “Say no to selling off the city and yes to Tempelhofer Feld. Get informed and go vote, people!”
Steffen Krach uses the opportunity for election advertising
SPD top candidate Steffen Krach addressed this directly in the comments section of the post: “The SPD is clearly against peripheral development – and I personally stand for that. We want to preserve Tempelhofer Feld and make it Berlin’s green lung,” wrote Krach.
The Green Party’s top candidate for the House of Representatives election, Werner Graf, is also skeptical about the development plans. He had previously announced that the Senate should rather advance the existing construction projects and convert the empty office space into affordable apartments. The Left announced that they supported the referendum and rejected development.
Stefan Evers, the CDU’s top candidate, announced to the Tagesspiegel in mid-July that he wanted to implement the peripheral development of Tempelhofer Feld in the event of an election victory without a new referendum or citizen’s survey. “For me, this election is also a vote on peripheral development on Tempelhofer Feld,” said Evers. In 2014, a referendum decided that the former airport in Tempelhof could not be built on.
