Vetoed press organizations sue Trump government

In response, the Republican president reiterated the argument that these vehicles publish fake news, which he called a “threat to national security”.

“This morning, we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit today to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes,” the three outlets said in a joint statement, citing the amendment to the American Constitution that protects freedom of the press.

“Without notice or due process, the White House revoked the credentials of our journalists because they objected to our coverage. If left unchallenged, this move threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism free from government interference,” they added.

On Friday (18), Trump announced that professionals from CNN, MS NOW and Politico will no longer be able to enter the White House to cover news, claiming that these press organizations broadcast “fake news”.

This Monday, after the announcement of the lawsuit, Trump made a post about the matter on the Truth Social network.

“The White House is not promoting an attack on the free press — something I value. It is promoting an attack on fake news, something that has grown like a cancer in our beloved United States of America. It is corrupt, intentional, widespread, fully coordinated and completely out of control. It is a threat to our national security and needs to be stopped, now!”, said the American president.

This Monday, broadcasters ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC agreed to suspend joint coverage of events with Trump’s participation, following his decision to veto CNN, MS NOW and Politico in the White House.
