Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei recalled that Iran supported the agreement between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. He called the latter, who enjoy the support of the ayatollahs’ regime, Yemenis.
“Our position is clear: the Yemeni issue could have been resolved long ago through a direct agreement between the Yemenis and Saudi Arabia. A road map was agreed upon. We informed that we are ready to assist in its implementation – with the consent of the parties. But that didn’t happen,” he said.
“If I remember correctly, on July 12, when the Sanaa airport was attacked, we expressed fears that this could lead to an escalation of the situation. Unfortunately, this is exactly what is happening now,” the diplomat said.
