Former Chief Rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldschmidt in an interview Channel 11 Israeli television said that the decision of the Russian authorities to declare him a foreign agent is due to the fact that Israel is making a certain turn towards Russia.
According to him, the invasion of Ukraine changed the nature of the Russian regime, made it more isolated. The rabbi said that on February 23, 2022, he went to sleep in Moscow, and on February 24 he woke up in Tehran.
He emphasized that he could not call Putin an anti-Semite, and that today the Jews in Russia are safe. The question for the rabbi is what will happen tomorrow – as the “Iron Curtain” descends again.
Goldschmidt, who left Russia shortly after its invasion of Ukraine, said that there is no future for the “Jewish community in Russia,” but does not rule out returning there, but for this the regime must change in Russia.
