Night has fallen on Čiovo, the fire is still burning. Fire Chief: Two Canadians are arriving in the morning

The fire that broke out on the island of Čiovo on Thursday afternoon is still active and will be extinguished all night by 150 firefighters with 45 fire trucks, the County Fire Operations Center in Split reported on Thursday evening.

– The fire is active on the southern side of Čiovo, it is an inaccessible terrain, and the fire has reached the sea. There are no houses there, firefighters are on all the roads, but that fire line is a kilometer away and there is no point in putting the firefighters in danger during the night. On the other side of Čiovo, towards Slatine and Arbanija, it is calm, occasionally there is an outbreak of flames, but it is not dramatic. 150 firefighters with 45 vehicles remain on duty in the field, and two Canadians arrive already at 5:30 in the morning – he said in 24sata Ivan Kovačević county fire chief.

– All firefighters and fire engines that were engaged in extinguishing the fire in the afternoon will stay all night and continue to extinguish the fire – said Hina in the Fire Operations Center.

A big problem for the firefighters is the inaccessible terrain on the south side – the thick smoke from the fire on Čiovo tonight spread to the southern parts of Split, where the smell of burning can be felt.

We remind you that around 15:30 a fire broke out in the area of Okrug Gornji. It threatened to be a disaster, but the firefighters successfully defended the houses on Čiovo.
