Heavy fire in old English factory: more than 100 firefighters on site

A fire broke out at an old factory in Keighley, West Yorkshire, on Thursday. The heavy fire is accompanied by jet-black plumes of smoke. No one would have been injured. More than 100 firefighters are on site to fight the fire. The Dalton Mills factory is a well-known filming location where series such as Peaky Blinders or Downton Abbey were filmed.

The major fire in downtown Keighley broke out just before noon. The fire brigade immediately rushed to the spot to fight the large inferno at the Dalton Mills factory. Twenty car pumps and more than 100 firefighters are on the scene, according to the BBC. No one was reported to have been injured in the fire.

The fire is accompanied by a thick, black plume of smoke. Neighbors are therefore asked to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation.

Built in 1869, the factory was once the largest textile factory in Yorkshire and employed over 2,000 people. In recent years, various film crews have settled in the Victorian building to record well-known series such as Peaky Blinders, Downton Abbey or The Great Train Robbery. Also in 2011, a fire broke out in the factory, presumably when copper thieves tried to make their move.()
