Half.brother of King Abdullah II of Jordan renounced the title of prince

Hamza bin Hussein, half-brother of King Abdullah II of Jordan, has announced that he is relinquishing his title of prince. He published the corresponding statement on his Twitter.

He wrote that he remains committed to Jordan and will continue as a private individual to serve “the motherland and the Jordanian people.” He wrote that “the upbringing he received in his youth does not allow him to support the policy pursued by Abdullah II.

In March, the court office of King Abdullah II of Jordan reported that the monarch received the former heir to the throne, Prince Hamza, who apologized for his actions that undermined the stability of the kingdom.

In April 2021, authorities reported the revelation of a plot to undermine Jordan’s stability. From the context, one could understand that this was an attempted coup d’état. 18 people were arrested, but most of them were not charged.

Prince Hamza most likely should have ascended the throne. He published a video in which he accused Abdullah of abuse. Shortly thereafter, he was placed under house arrest, but he avoided trial – the king said that we were talking about family disagreements.
