The ruling majority of Georgia intends to restrict the rights of sexual minorities in the country. Deputies of “Georgian Dream” have developed relevant regulations, which are intended to be included in the Constitution, declared Mamuka Mdinaradze, deputy of the ruling party.

According to him, the goal is to “guarantee family values and the protection of minors”.

The main change implies, first of all, a ban on demonstrations, gatherings, parades of the LGBT community in the country, it is also proposed to consider only “the union of one genetic man and one genetic woman over the age of 18” as an official marriage.

If approved, these proposals would ban medical procedures to change sex in Georgia, and gender would be indicated on documents based solely on a genetic profile, not self-determination.

In conversations with the Georgian service of “Freedom”, the organizations involved in the protection of the rights of LGBT people stated that they intend to appeal the changes to the Constitutional Court of Georgia, claiming that they do not correspond to the norms of the fundamental law on the equality of all citizens.
