Bus crashes into a ravine and catches fire, 45 dead in South Africa

The death toll from an accident involving a passenger bus that crashed into a ravine near the South African city of Limpopo, about 380 kilometers north of Johannesburg, is 45. According to the Daily Sun newspaper, the accident occurred after the bus, carrying some parishioners heading to the Easter pilgrimage, fell from the Mamatlakala bridge to a depth of about 50 metres, near a point known as Mokopane. After the fall, the bus was engulfed in flames and 45 of its 46 occupants died almost instantly. The only survivor, an 8-year-old girl, was immediately taken to hospital. The Daily Sun reported that, according to the police account, the driver lost control and crashed into the bridge barriers, causing the vehicle to overturn.
