The diplomatic personnel who were in Ecuador return to Mexico through a commercial flight supported by friendly embassies, reported this Saturday the Mexican Foreign Minister, Alicia Bárcena.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) indicated in X that “Mexico will always ensure your safety and respect for your rights.”

“On instructions from President (Andrés Manuel) López Obrador, our diplomatic staff returns to Mexico from Quito, commercially, supported by friendly embassies,” he added in his publication.

The return of the Mexican diplomats occurs after the breaking of Mexico’s diplomatic relations with the Government of Ecuadorafter the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Quito to capture the former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas.

This Saturday, Lopez Obrador He thanked the messages of solidarity from leaders, leaders and civil organizations in Mexico and different countries for what he described as a “painful matter.”

“We appreciate the solidarity of leaders, leaders and civil organizations from different countries and our own after the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Ecuador”, noted López Obrador in X.

For his part, the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS)Luis Almagro, urged “dialogue” and anticipated that he will request a meeting of the organization’s Permanent Council to address the tensions between both countries.

In this context, the president of the Mexican Senate, Ana Lilia Rivera, warned that the Ecuadorian authorities are obliged to safeguard the Mexican embassy, ​​its assets and archives, according to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

“In the Mexican Senate we will remain vigilant that this is the case,” he noted in X, while making a respectful exhortation to the Ecuador Assembly to establish contact and, together, “contribute to overcoming this sensitive diplomatic crisis by prioritizing dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes.”

Mexico He has also anticipated that he will appeal to the International Court of Justice to denounce Ecuador’s responsibility for violations of International Law.
