The Russian FSB reports on the prevention of a terrorist attack in a Moscow synagogue

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in one of the synagogues in Moscow “at a moment of mass gathering of citizens,” the Russian state agency Interfax reports, citing the FSB press service.

According to the FSB, a “native of one of the Central Asian countries” planning to carry out a terrorist attack, when detained on April 10, “provided armed resistance and was neutralized by return fire.” The FSB does not indicate the name of the suspect or his citizenship.

The FSB report said that the suspect, during the imprisonment he was serving in his homeland for committing a criminal offense, “initiatively established contact with persons convicted of participating in activities of a terrorist nature, under whose influence he began to share the ideology of the international terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation.” organizations.”

After his release from the colony in November 2023, the man came to Russia. While living in Moscow, he was preparing to commit a terrorist act: he “conducted reconnaissance of the area surrounded” by one of the synagogues in the capital, and also acquired components for making an improvised explosive device.

“During the operational search activities at his place of residence, a ready-to-use improvised explosive device, as well as explosives, were discovered and seized,” reports the FSB of the Russian Federation.
