Musk calls the appeal mechanism in Brazil a “sham”

Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), spoke again this Friday (12) about the current situation in Brazil, described by him this Thursday (11) as the “worst” among the countries where his platform operates.

This time, when republishing a post from a user who highlighted the lack of response from Brazilian Justice to X’s appeals, Musk said that “the appeals process (in Brazil) is a farce”.

In an additional revelation to the Twitter Files Brasil case, X said earlier that it has already filed several appeals with the Brazilian courts, some of which have been pending for more than a year, with no response to date.

“X Brasil has filed many appeals in Brazil, some of which have been pending for more than a year. There are 42 cases in which we presented appeals and did not receive answers. We believe that failure to consider these appeals is a violation of due process. We also have three motions for clarification awaiting a response. We ask that the court hear these appeals and respect due legal process,” the platform stated.

The company also said this Friday that it is “committed to maintaining its operations and offices in Brazil”, despite the uncertain situation.

“OX is dedicated to preserving our office and operations in Brazil, as we understand the importance of maintaining our presence in the region. We are actively working to ensure that X remains accessible in Brazil, allowing people to freely express their thoughts and opinions. We believe that access to X is vital for the people of Brazil to engage in open dialogue and remain connected to information on a global level. Our commitment to protecting freedom of expression in Brazil and throughout the world is unwavering, and we will continue to take the necessary measures to defend this fundamental right.”
