The winner of The Voice 2024 injured by a gunshot

Kendji Girac,twenty-seven year old singer winner of the French edition of ‘The Voice 2014’ remained wounded by a gunshot While he was handling a Colt 45 purchased at a flea market. The investigators, who have not yet listened to him, have not ruled out any leads, even if the gypsy singer’s family assure that it was not a matter of a score-settling between gangs of nomads but of an accident. Police received a call around 5.30am about a man seriously injured by a gunshot. When the officers arrived, the singer had already been there taken to the Haut-Leveque hospital in Pessac, south-west of the capital of Gironde.

An investigation has been opened, according to a source close to the investigation, but the Mont-de-Marsan Prosecutor’s Office has specified that “for the moment” it cannot provide “any information”. When he was injured, Girac was there in a nomadic camp of Biscarrosse on the departmental road D652, towards Parentis-en-Born.
Originally from Perigueux (Dordogne), Kendji Maille – his real name – was born into a family of Catalan gypsy origin. He became famous “a bit by accident”, in his words, when in August 2013 his uncle released a video of himself performing a cover of Gims’ hit, “Bella”, on guitar.
He then won the show The Voice in 2014 and has sold millions of records, particularly thanks to his hits “Color Gitano” and “Andalouse”, the videos of which have been viewed hundreds of millions of times on YouTube.
