Hamburg – He wears a flashy watch and glittery rings and feels untouchable. That’s the end of it for now. The young Afghan is in prison. He is an intensive offender and, at the age of 18, is already the boss of a notorious Hamburg drug gang. He will not be deported – instead, his residence permit has been repeatedly extended.

Now the criminal life of the young man, who came to Germany as a ten-year-old refugee, is occupying politics.

He is the boss of a notorious drug gang

Amir N. (18) is said to be the ringleader of the “315er” gang – named after a parking garage in Hamburg. According to investigators, the “315s” forced 14 to 16-year-olds to deal drugs with beatings and death threats. Recently, gang boss Amir N. is said to have handled a firearm. Therefore they moved Special forces to get him out of his nursery.

A judge sent Amir N. to youth prison. Investigators seized drugs, weapons and cash from gang members.

His residence permit is repeatedly extended

On September 22, 2015, Amir, then ten years old, came to Germany from Afghanistan with his parents and three siblings.

On October 13, 2016, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BamF) decided: Amir will be recognized as a refugee.

The residence permit was extended on October 15, 2019.

On October 14, 2022, August 4, 2023 and February 5, 2024, the residence permit was extended using a so-called fictional certificate – even though it had long been known that Amir N. was a criminal. An intensive offender!

Known to the police as an intensive offender for two years

The Senate admits: “He has been listed by the police as an intensive offender since May 17, 2022. The accused has also been in custody proceedings since May 31, 2022.”

This “custody procedure” means: The Hamburg authorities were obliged “to focus the attention of the official institutions on the most criminally conspicuous violent criminals under the age of 21 and to place them under continuous observation.”

The public prosecutor’s office is investigating Amir N. for aggravated robbery, grievous bodily harm, coercion, threats and drug trafficking.

The decision about the future of the persistent criminal Amir N. will soon be made.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser recently said: “Anyone who doesn’t follow the rules has to leave.” Minister colleague Cem Özdemir said: “Anyone who comes to Germany to seek protection and commits a crime here cannot expect leniency. He has to leave our country again.”

With the case of Amir N., politicians can show whether big words are followed by action.
