Magdeburg – The figures are horrifying… Every hour there is a new case of domestic violence!
The cases of violence in the family or relationships are in Saxony-Anhalt increased significantly. In 2023, almost 8,000 cases of domestic violence were registered – around 30 percent more than five years earlier. This was reported by the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, citing figures from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA).
That means: about one case per hour! These are offenses such as bodily harm, Homicidesblackmail, threats or stalking have been recorded.
The majority of these cases of violence took place in relationships last year. 5,600 crimes, three out of four suspects were male.
According to the report, there were also 2,400 cases of violence within the family, including against one another children or relatives. Around 72 percent of the suspects were men – alcohol played a role in around 18 percent of these crimes.
