400 foreigners have been deprived of their Russian citizenship on charges of committing crimes in Russia

Russian authorities have deprived 398 former foreigners of Russian citizenship, TASS reports, citing the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the media, foreigners who received Russian citizenship committed a crime during the first six months of receiving citizenship.

The Russian service of “Freedom” notes that on October 26, 2023, the “Citizenship” law came into force in Russia, according to which foreigners who have received Russian citizenship can be deprived of their Russian passports for discrediting the Russian army, for so-called fakes, for sabotage. on the basis of a court decision on defection, calls for anti-Russian sanctions, espionage, treason, violation of the law on “foreign agents”, as well as hooliganism, falsification of important documents.

The first case of deprivation of Russian citizenship was registered already two months after the adoption of the law, in December 2023. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moscow reported that two men were arrested with packages containing drugs, judgments were made in the cases, but the sentence was not announced, then they were deprived of Russian citizenship.
