The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a meeting with representatives of Fatah and Hamas in order to overcome the division on the Palestinian street and achieve national harmony.
“The parties expressed their desire to achieve reconciliation through negotiations. An agreement was reached to continue meetings. Representatives of both delegations expressed gratitude to China for supporting the Palestinian people and their national aspirations,” the statement said.
Official Beijing intends to take advantage of the conflict in the Gaza Strip to expand its influence in the Middle East region. This is the first visit to China by a Hamas delegation since the group’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
