Manhattan court fines Trump for social media posts

On Thursday, May 2, a Manhattan criminal court fined former US President Donald Trump $9,000 for nine social media posts that were interpreted as violating a gag order and contempt of court.

The judge warned Trump that he could be jailed if such violations were repeated.

Let us recall that on April 15, a trial began in the criminal court of Manhattan (New York) in the case of cash payments from former US President Donald Trump to porn actress Stormy Daniels. According to the case file, $130,000 was supposed to ensure Stormi’s silence about her extramarital affair with a politician.

This is the first criminal trial in US history against a person who held the presidency. The process is taking place simultaneously with the presidential election campaign in which Trump is participating. He tried unsuccessfully to have the trial postponed.

Trump faces several more criminal charges related to his attempt to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election and his role in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 by his supporters. Proceedings in these cases have not yet begun.

Trump himself says that this is an attempt by the Democrats to remove him from participation in the elections. However, the US Constitution does not prohibit a convicted person from running for office as head of state unless he participated in a rebellion. In cases related to January 6, such charges may be brought against him.
