Three foreign surfers murdered in robbery gone wrong in Mexico, three suspects arrested

Three surfers – two Australians and an American – are believed to have been murdered in a robbery gone wrong in Mexico. The Mexican authorities report this. Three suspects have been arrested.

Australian brothers Callum (33) and Jake (30) Robinson and their American friend Jack Rhoad (30) were on a surfing holiday on the Mexican coast when they disappeared without a trace last weekend. They were last seen in northern Baja California state, in far northeastern Mexico.

When the Australians did not show up at their previously booked Airbnb, Rhoades was subsequently absent from work in San Diego, and their social media channels suddenly went silent, they were reported missing. First their car was found burned out near their campsite, and on Saturday the bodies of the trio were found in a 15-meter deep well.

Three suspects arrested

Mexican authorities have launched a murder investigation. According to prosecutor Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez, everything indicates that the three friends were murdered during a robbery. “They allegedly resisted, after which the robbers shot them,” it said.

Three suspects were arrested. At the time of their arrest, the trio was in possession of narcotics, local police said. One suspect is also said to have had the phone of one of the Robinson brothers.
