Palestinian armed groups robbed several banks in Gaza, taking about 66 million euros

During April, Palestinian armed groups, one of which posed as Hamas, carried out several bank robberies in the Gaza Strip, taking a total of about 66 million euros. This was reported by the French newspaper Le Monde with reference to a document received from the Bank of Palestine.

One of the robberies took place on April 16: on this day, employees of the main bank branch in Gaza City noticed that a hole had appeared in the ceiling of one of the bank premises. A few hours earlier, unknown armed robbers entered the bank and stole safes containing about 2.8 million euros (in shekels).

The next day, the robbers returned and blew up three safes containing about 29 million euros. Two days later, the robbers’ loot was the equivalent of 33.6 million euros.
