American missionaries killed in attack on orphanage in Haiti

Armed criminals killed three American missionaries this Friday (24) during an attack on an orphanage that houses dozens of children in Lison 49, in Plaine, north of the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince.

Two victims are the daughter and son-in-law of the member of the House of Representatives from the state of Missouri (USA) Ben Baker, the politician himself reported on his social networks.

“My heart is broken into a thousand pieces. I have never felt this kind of pain before,” the Republican Party congressman wrote on Facebook.

Baker’s daughter, Natalie, and her husband, Davy Lloyd, were in the country as missionaries when they were attacked by an armed gang.

Haiti is in a spiral of violence with murders, attacks, rapes and kidnappings carried out by powerful armed groups, a situation that has worsened since the end of February.

“They went to heaven together. Please pray for my family, we desperately need strength. And also pray for the Lloyd family. I have no other words for now,” Baker added.

The news was shared via social media by former president and presidential candidate Donald Trump, who is also from the Republican Party.

“God bless Davy and Natalie. What a tragedy. Haiti is totally out of control. Find the killers NOW!!!”, wrote the politician on the Truth Social network.

In March, the US State Department issued a travel advisory urging US citizens not to go to Haiti because of its “unpredictable and dangerous” security conditions.

Natalie and Davy got married in August 2022 and moved to Haiti three months later, according to her Instagram account.

On the same social network, there is a post of both working mainly with Haitian children for Missions in Haiti, an NGO founded by Davy’s parents, David and Alicia Lloyd, in 2000.

Haiti’s interim government announced on Wednesday that it was extending the curfew for another seven days in the western department, where the country’s capital is located. A state of emergency is also in place to try to contain the violence.

To help contain violence in Haiti, which last year caused around 8,000 deaths, a multinational security mission led by Kenya and with UN approval is expected to arrive in the country soon.
