Antony Blinken arrives in Egypt for peace talks

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Egypt for talks with President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi. The main subject of the negotiations will be mediation efforts to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas.

This is the eighth visit of an American politician to the region since the outbreak of hostilities. Blinken will also visit Israel, Jordan and Qatar.

It should be noted that on the eve of the visit, a senior representative of the Hamas terrorist group, Sami Abu Zuhri, called on the United States to put pressure on Israel to force it to stop military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The settlement plan proposed by US President Joe Biden provides for a permanent cessation of hostilities. This would allow Hamas to maintain power in the Gaza Strip, contrary to Israel’s stated war goals.
